A while back I was keen on attaining the Topshop Golden Aura palette because the colours looked perfect for an everyday nude/natural smokey eye. However, I found this little gem in my mums makeup area. Apparently shes used this very often as you can see little dents in the 3rd and 4th shade. Tawny is probably a few years old by now, yet the pigmentation is still strong albeit a tad too shimmery/glittery for my tastes. The shadows themselves are very blend-able and silky, probably with the exception of the 2nd shade. The taupe shimmer doesn't always pick up well on my Ecotools eye shading brush, but that could be because it didn't age well?
As the Golden Aura palette already contains 3 of the 4 shades in this palette - it has a wearable shimmer brown instead of taupe - I would not purchase the newer palette as this one works fine. You should probably also factor in the point that I don't use eyeshadow often, if not at all. I'm always on the run or bludging around at home, and my little Asian eyes just need some brown eyeliner to really bring them out. Too much eyeshadow and I'll end up looking extra squint-y. That's why I have so many highlighting/pale toned eyeshadows in my Z-palette.
The packaging is very good, I like the rubberized outer shell and handy sized mirror included. Kudos for the cute and compact design. I don't use the applicator, just for swatching I guess, but it is pretty standard as far as applicators go. In all, a very wearable shimmer palette that should suit most skin tones. The taupe shade could use a little improvement in quality and pigmentation, it goes on slightly sheerer than the rest of the palette. Tawny would be great for someone looking for a good selection of everyday shades, but I probably would not recommend for those who heavily prefer matte eyeshadow. Although it is good to try out new things once in a while.
