The white metal grid you see was actually outside and used as as display for plants or something, so when my parents didn't need it anymore, I cleaned it up and it now serves as the perfect in closet bag rack. As I don't use a vanity or drawer cabinets, this set up works very well for me because it allows open access to everything I need and gives me the freedom to rearrange things how I want. The nook in the closet itself in a cool and dark place all year round so it's great for my makeup and perfume longevity. I also left some space on my closet rack for necklaces to be hung up. Underneath those is the underwear and sock cabinets, very convenient and space saving if I don't say so myself.
The containers I buy are pretty much mostly from Daiso, The Reject Shop, some Japanese store that sells things like Daiso (starts with H, don't remember where, but all products were from Japan and also AU$2.80 for everything) and Muji. I find that I don't need to get fancy storage units as this isn't a permanent system anyway, so I make do with gift boxes and containers. Even my palettes and hair products are stored way in the back, no need to waste money on storage units for those as I use up the hair products pretty quickly as well.
On top you can see that my skincare products are mostly all in one place, the body lotions and face scrubs/cleansers live under the bathroom sink. I water proofed a small gift box lid by glad wrapping it for the lip scrub and body oils (I'm out of body oil right now) to keep the container for longer. My perfumes pretty much all live in their boxes, unless they're rollerball ones, those are in the middle shelf, because I just like it like that. Guess it saves space too.
Anyway, the point of this post is to show that, you don't really need to go out and buy specific makeup storage (unless you're really limited on space and/or love an attractive display), you can reuse and recycle any old tin or box to store products; maybe even spruce it up with some paint like I did with my skincare box. If you're anything like me, putting things away into drawers may result in forgetting it's even there. During this clean up, I had to throw away many products that I loved, just because I didn't use them as much and they expired. Having it all out in front of me makes life a lot easier and plus, I save more $$ from not throwing away so much stuff.
