I seem to be on a Topshop tangent lately. I don't own a lot of Topshop clothing, because my wardrobe is bursting at the seams, and I'm currently obsessed with beauty products at the moment. You'll find me inconsistent like that. I passed my "fashionista" phase long ago (last year) during high school and after I cleaned out my closet several times this year I realised...oh my, I have too much clothing I don't wear; and I pretty much stopped buying so much clothing and jewelry after the three huge charity bags I hauled to the local charity station. Now that my clothing is down sized and the closest spaces sorted, it is safe to say my attention has shifted elsewhere. To beauty products of course, but probably down the road you'll find me posting more about some other hobby I take up. I digress.
I've been pretty unsuccessful with bronzers; love the idea as my face contours are quite flat and unremarkable. Blushes were the first step into defining my face shape and for some reason I was never really into it. Must have been the whole clownish look thing I always ended up with; it's a working progress, blush. So, now I'm venturing into bronzed goddess territory yet the major problem here is that I don't have a beautiful tan and neither did I get Mum's dewy skinned genes, I've tried Benefit's Hoola which just straight out looked too much like brown ash; Physicians Formula bronzers where all just orange dust for me; my love for theBalm products does not apply to their way too dark Bahama Mama; and my current usage of Bourjois's chocolate bronzing thing in 51 is somewhat working, but it does seem a little too warm for my skin hence I'll save it for summer days. I have a few other bronzers I haven't tried out yet but we'll get to that later.
One item I found during my winter beauty purge is Topshop's bronzer in Sandcastle which fortunately came at the right time because I was thisclose to shelling out $40+ for a Honey Bronzer from The Body Shop. Sandcastle is a pretty sand brown colour which I believe works so well with my yellow/olive skin as it neither turns orange nor to ash during its moderate 5-6 hour stay. At first glance, the matte finish of the compact looks very unremarkable, but upon gently touching it, I was so surprised at the silky smoothness, the wonderful colour payoff and obvious lack of shimmer.
Finely milled and blending like a dream, Sandcastle definitely tugs at my heartstrings and not so much at my purse strings. I found that even if I did use too much, it was pretty easy to sheer out by buffing well. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with light to light medium skin tones and is looking for a nice, subtle contouring powder.
Of course, the packaging is quite attractive too with a rubberised and sturdy casing, which I have to say is not resistant to dusty fingerprints. But I like anything plastic and rubbery so its pretty awesome to me.
Rating: I'm hesitant to give this a full 5 as I've only used this twice so for now 4.9/5. Well done again, Topshop. xx
