I turn 20 today!! That is all.
Just kidding - It is very rare when I get a product and instantly declare everlasting love to it; but theBalm has hit the top again with this highlighter named Mary-Lou Manizer. I swear, I think theBalm has to be the best brand ever as all their products (that I have) are amazing, high quality and don't wreak havoc on my skin. What more could I ask for? Well, maybe a price tag that's a smidgen smaller for Australians. I purchased this stunner about eight months ago, at David Jones for $34.95. Unless you've been living under a blanket, this is one of the better highlighters out there for those with light to dark skin. Here's what I have to say about Ms Mary-Lou:
As always, let’s begin with the packaging. I thoroughly enjoy the cheeky innovation of theBalm Cosmetics and Ms Mary-Lou fits into the family nicely. Styled like a wanted poster, the blonde on the cover is charged with being “too pretty, too popular”; on the grounds of being a “highlighter, shimmer and eyeshadow”. Her antonym is apparently a womanizer. Lol. She is encased in a sturdy silver plastic with a snap close, although after so much opening and lifting, the joint where lid and tub does become a little loose – that I can live with.
Personally I love glitter in moderation so this is practically perfect. I have heard that the pan can easily be separated from the compact and there have been many cases of the product itself shattering. My heart almost broke when I dropped mine by accident. Luckily the product for the most part just needed some pushing back into the pan and I just glued and sticky taped the pan back to the compact. Close call girl, too close.
The official theBalm website describes this as a “seemingly innocent honey-hued lumanizer that catches everybody’s eyes”. I kind of agree – she looks very unassuming in the compact, but when lightly swept onto cheekbones, temples, jawlines and T-zone, oh gosh…this powder just transforms my entire complexion. For my tired, dry and sickly light skin, this bombshell is a game changer. The texture is finely milled with some not so subtle glitter – what highlighter doesn't have glitter.
However, for those with oily skin I do suggest you use a very light hand when applying this, because too much of Mary-Lou can leave you dazzling like a Meyer vampire. That’ll get you noticed for sure. So if you want a beautiful champagne glow to your skin, and have very dry to dry/normal skin, feel free to go to town with this baby, I do and it gets me many complements as I apply it in strategic places on my face. Don’t use this as an all over powder.
Holy Grail status and a definite repurchase - rating: 5/5
