The product I'm talking about is the Illamasqua Blush Up Brush which I purchased to go in tandem with a contour kit I purchased recently (review up soon) and despite being more than what I'd pay normally for a brush, I found that it was perfect for precise contouring around the face and under cheekbones. Although the flat compressed bristles are ideal in density and smoothness, it was a little too fat to contour my nose. Which is fine as I rarely ever contour the nose, glasses sort of get in the way. I am pleased with the quality but there is a small issue with some hair fall out in the initial use. After the second wash though it seemed to be okay.
After drooling over Nars Ita brush, then being outraged at the price - even the Illamasqua brush annoyed me as it was the most I've ever spent on a brush - I decided I didn't need it. Then I saw the Artiste Professional by Manicare Contour Brush #55 at Priceline. Despite already having the other brush I went and nabbed this one anyway for $21.95. As you can see below, the bristles are slightly larger in both width and length compared to the Blush Up. I have to say I am really disappointed with this brush.
Oh the shedding, this thing sheds so much I'm surprised it still has hairs. It is much softer than the Blush Up and closer to Nars Ita dupe territory and works to blend and diffuse some overdone contouring. I still don't like it. I think I need to return it and buy another Blush Up or at the least exchange it for another one.
Illamasqua Blush Up brush rating: 4/5
Artiste Contour #55 rating: 2/5
In short, if your local Illamasqua is not having a sale, I still suggest investing in the Blush Up.
