Initially, my ultimate Burberry scent 'desire' was London for women. Last week I went browsing around Bourke St Mall in Melbourne where lo-and-behold, stocktake sale. I did buy some items which I absolutely do not need, but heaven forbid I learn some restraint. Unfortunately, many perfumes were not on sale, the pictured being one of them.
I sampled the Burberry London for women and men and for some reason, London Ladies just came out all wrong for me. The opening notes were too citrus-y and after about 30 minutes it just smelt like that awful, sweet alcohol scent in cheap perfumes. Disappointing to say the least.
The men's version I fell in love with at first sniff. Ooh my goodness, if there are any men reading this - Burberry London is popular for a reason - get on it! The whiffs of bergamot and lavender infused with cinnamon were magical. However, as I was on the search for my signature scent, I did not purchase as the dry-down had a little too much incense and tobacco for my taste.
Thoroughly unsatisfied, I made my way to Feeling Sexy on St Kilda Rd; great place to get perfumes for less. There I sampled London again to the same results and by then I was very frustrated. So, I randomly picked up another Burberry bottle in hopes of quenching my feelings and voila - I had FOUND MY PERFECT WINTER SCENT!!!!! Burberry Brit for Ladies, dear reader.
What can I even say. The day was already blisteringly cold, a normal mood swing from the previous days sunshine and lollipops (psh Melbourne), and this wonderful perfume just completely complements that cloudy facade. A slightly disconcerting yet very light citrus beginning of lemon and pear wrapped in almonds unfolds the magic within. I can clearly detect the peony, vanilla and amber and boy, what a combination that is.
On my skin, Brit is warm and cuddly, drying down to almost gourmand which isn't really my cup of tea, but I can already feel myself shifting from a white floral and oriental lover to some girl obsessed with gourmand. Thierry Mugler Angel - I'm coming for you. For some reason, Brit isn't sweet on me, it is more heady and elegant, which is perfect because I can barely stand sweet scents except in winter where I need that extra rush.
The price is to die for too, at Feeling Sexy anyway, it sells for AUD $42.95 for 50 ml.
In all, winter perfection in a pretty glass bottle. Thank you, Burberry.
